Why Plants?

Plant-Based Diet
A diet which focusses primarily on consuming plant foods – the more whole plant foods, the better! A whole foods plant-based diet is what I follow and one I encourage all my clients to adopt – it includes vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices and minimises the consumption of processed and refined foods. There are many beneficial reasons to adopt a plant-exclusive diet…what are they?

Our Health
A whole foods plant-based diet has the power to reduce your chances of developing common chronic diseases such as heart disease, obesity, stroke, type 2 diabetes and different types of cancers. According to the American and British Dietetic Associations, well-planned vegan diets are suitable for people at all stages of life from infancy to adulthood.

Respecting Animal Rights
Underpinned by the vegan philosophy, other animals lives’ have inherent moral value and the basic moral rights not to be bred, used, harmed, displaced and/or killed. By abstaining from consuming animal products, we are respecting other animals’ rights and choosing not to fund their exploitation. Adopting a plant-based diet is a start in the right direction but it’s important to be aware of the other industries and areas in which animal use is common – i.e. in entertainment, fashion, labour, science and others.

Environment & sustainability
Animal agriculture is by and large an ecological disaster as a driver of climate change and cause of many environmental problems, most notably – land degradation, water depletion, deforestation, pollution, habit loss and species extinction. Unsurprisingly, keeping animals and their secretions off your plate will substantially reduce your carbon footprint.

With a growing global population, access to food and sustainability are becoming ever more important issues to address. Most plant farming uses less land, water and produces less waste – making it a key component of a more just and inclusive food system for all humans.
